Organizational Profile

National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) is responsible for setting policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAGB’s responsibilities, as set forth in statute, include: selecting subject areas to be assessed; developing student achievement levels; developing guidelines for reporting and disseminating NAEP results; determining the content of NAEP assessments; and other duties. The independent, 26-member Board is composed of state, local, and federal officials, educators, business representatives, and members of the general public.
